The Cliff Walk
Newport, Rhode Island
The Cliff Walk is a 3.5 mile National Recreation Trail,
following the sea’s edge along a section of the East Coast of Newport.
The route varies in degrees of difficulty, from paved areas to rock walking,
and is peppered along the shoreline with the most incredible early 20th Century ‘Cottages’,
which are, of course, phenomenally lavish mansions.
The term ‘Cottage’ was adopted as an almost dismissively contemptuous description
of these residences, in order to appear ‘unimpressed’ by the owners own wealth.
Ludicrous.
Beautiful to look at though....!

We stopped for a quick bite of lunch
(the ubiquitous Chicken Cesar Wrap!)
in the Chinese Tea House, which was built as the ‘simple’ garden room
for the incredible Vanderbilt ‘cottage’ - The Marbles.

Leaving the coastal walk behind, we bought tickets to view inside ‘The Marbles’.
